 Tips & Tricks

back to school

The Star-Telegram touts organization as the very best way to take stress off the school calendar. According to Faith P. Tennyson, their decluttering expert, organization should be a family event. Here are some of the best tips and tricks:

1. Label everything. Clothing, school supplies, etc. This way it won’t get mixed up with siblings’ or fellow students’ belongings. Try Mabel’s Labels.

2. Color code. Assign a color to each family member (or let them pick their favorite!) and buy their backpacks, lunch bags and other accessories in the assigned color.

3. Keep a family calendar. Tennyson suggests hanging a large wall calendar where everyone can see it, and getting into the habit of looking at it each evening to plan the next day. Try this Family Life Monthly Weekly calendar.

4. Keep the closet simple. Store your kids out-of-season clothes in bins so whatever they choose from their closet will be appropriate.

5. Play with the paper. When they come home with art work, have your child help choose their favorites to keep and store away. Other works of art can be recycled into cards for Grandma and Grandpa!

Meet the Artists: Stacy Peterson

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

For as long as she can remember, Stacy Peterson was always doodling and drawing. Even at the young age of two, her mother saw talent and kept her enrolled in art classes. Stacy followed her passion for drawing and became a full-time illustrator after a career in advertising in New York City.

For the last 15 years, Stacy has illustrated dozens of children’s books, greeting cards and products in her bright, cheerful style. Her happy color palette and charming illustrations of children make for a delightfully, unique style. Her recipe for success has been: a little bit of whimsy for personality, a dash of sweetness  and a lot of style.

We are absolutely thrilled with Stacy’s illustrations for the 2011 Family Life Monthly/Weekly calendar

You can find more of Stacy’s art on her website: www.stacypeterson.net or follow her on facebook.

Currently, Stacy lives in the wild, wild west with her two children and enjoys the vast blue sky and brilliant sunsets.

7 Gifts Dad Will Love

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Here at Orange Circle Studio, some of our favorite products to design are the products for Mom. But because Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 20th, this weekend is all about Dad. Show Dad how much you care with breakfast in bed, maybe an afternoon at the park, and don’t forget a special gift! If you’re still shopping for Father’s Day, here are 7 gift ideas that may be just what you’re looking for.

1. A Colorful Watch

Wall Calendars

This Witherspoon Watch from the MoMA Store is great for Dads that like quality watches and pops of bright color. Architect Michael Graves designed this watch using a stainless steel case and a black leather band. The stitching on the band matches the colorful face, a nice touch!

2. A Complete Grilling Set

Wall Calendars

Does your Dad/Husband wear an apron that says “kiss the cook” and insists on grilling for every special occasion? Treat him with a brand new complete grilling set. Overstock.com carries this delux, 12 peice Gourmet Traditions stainless steel set. From now on, Dad will be grilling in style!

3. Sign Dad Up for a Monthly Club

Wall Calendar

You know Dad best, whether he’s a pizza lover, has a weakness for ice cream, or always has to have his morning coffee, you can find a gift that is perfect just for him. Amazingclubs.com has some very cool options for monthly clubs that Dad may want to join, including a Pizza of the Month Club and a Barbecue Sauce Club. Whatever club you sign him up for, he will get a different item delivered to his door every month. Join the Pizza club, and every 30 days Dad will have a fresh pizza, and never the same type twice!

4. A Sailing Calendar

Wall Calendar

Is Dad happiest when the sails are raised and he’s out on the sea? Help him bring a bit of that into his home or office with our Gallery Series Wind Dancers calendar. The mat black covers make it a bit more masculine that your typical calendar, and the sailing photography by Cory Silken is terrific.

5. Vintage Cuff Links

Wall Calendar

Cuff Links always make a great Father’s Day gift, and these aren’t your typical cuff links. These links are actually authentic vintage U.S. stamps are encased in epoxy! Nordstrom carries several options in this style including vintage Marilyn Monroe, Spiderman, and the above Babe Ruth.

6. A Great Book

Wall Calendar

The great thing about giving Dad a book on Father’s Day is that he’ll know you put some serious thought into your gift. Think about Dad’s interests and other books you’ve seen him reading, and pick out something you think he’ll like. An autobiography on his favorite musician (Johnny Cash, for example) would be a wonderful read.

7. Concert/Sporting Event Tickets

Wall Calendar

Treat Dad to tickets to a wonderful event this Father’s Day. Ticketmaster.com always has plenty of options: Star Wars in Concert, Jimmy Buffet, Cirque du Soleil, and Paul McCartney, just to name a few.

From everyone here at Orange Circle Studio, we’d like to wish a early Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there!

Make Plans For a Great Family Summer!

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Mom Calendars

A lot of moms have mixed feelings about summer break for the kids.  One one hand, there is relief from the daily grind of rushing to make lunches, rushing even more to feed the kids breakfast, and maximum rushing to drop them off at school on time!  But with the relief, comes the stress of trying to fill 2 1/2 months of lazy summer days.  Somehow, there’s more scheduling and juggling to do when the kids are not in school.

Reduce your stress by scheduling your summer in advance–and get the whole family involved!

- Gather brochures, schedules and information on anything that peaks your interest for summer activities.   Look at community resources, day camps, sporting events, vacation brochures,  library activity schedules, and children’s summer class schedules offered through the city.

- Consider your budget, already scheduled appointments, work schedules, and each child’s needs. Set apart mandatory activities and also give your children some choices.  Let them choose an enrichment activity and a fun activity.

- Plan activities to do together as a family. (Check out our list below)

- Lay out your calendar and fill in the activities for the weeks ahead as a family.  Our Monthly/Weekly organizing calendar can help you plan for the month and detail plan for each week.  Let your kids fill in special events to give them special days to look forward to!

Need some fun ideas? Try one of these family activities:

  • Have a picnic in your backyard or at the park.
  • Go Fishing
  • Have a backyard camp out.
  • Plan a local vacation.  Be a tourist in your own town!
  • Teach a cooking class to the the rest of the family.
  • Invite another family over for a movie night. (This would be a great “family movie night” classic to watch!)

Have you started making plans for the summer?

Caleb went on to get a degree in Fine Arts, and later a job with the Disney animation studio in New York City. It wasn’t long before he realized that his art lends itself wonderfully to more than just books–you can now find Caleb’s artwork on gift products, greeting cards, scrap booking supplies, and of course our collection of Do It All Mom products.

Caleb’s designs really do a wonderful job combining the fun, retro vibe with the appeal of modern style. It’s about time products for busy Moms are as attractive as they are functional!
