Before I started working here at Orange Circle Studio, I was already a planner fanatic. As a matter of fact, I brought my planner to my interview, and showing it to my future boss and coworkers is what really helped me get the job. I’ll post pictures next week of the decorated-within-an-itch-of-its-life agenda that inhabited my purse last year, so look out for that!

As for today, I thought I would post some pictures that I found on Flickr of planners that people have decked out to fit their taste and lifestyle. I love the idea of taking something and making it your own, and these planners definitely have their owner’s personality all over them.

The first one is from Flicker user Citrus Faire. I love the collage feel (I always loved making collages in high school — why did I ever stop?). She made the entire thing by hand and, on this monthly page, also included separate spaces for phone numbers and email addresses to remember, which as we all know, is so important! I’m so impressed by the amount of work and thought she put into this. You can check out some other pictures of her planner on her Flickr site, which is pretty incredible and must have taken forever to make.

DIY Planner

The next “planner” comes a from a doctor who repurposed index cards to use as a calendar for when he is on call. It’s color coded (poor guy, the pink days are his only days off) and highly practical and portable. For someone running around as much as a doctor who’s on call, those are two very important qualities. You can read the actual explanation he wrote here — his Flickr username is churl.

The decorations in my planner tend to be mostly drawn by hand or cut out from magazines, so I like this next planner’s use of hand-drawn art. It’s very fun and colorful. You can see more pictures of Jadecat23′s planner on her page, as well.

DIY Planner

This last planner is my favorite — I’m in love with the drawings and the idea of turning boring to-do lists and events into art. I used to keep fine-point markers in my purse to decorate my planner during downtime and make the mundane a little more exciting, so my planner from last year looks like this, too. It looks like this planner’s owner was in high school at the time she used it, and I think it’s awesome that instead of just writing down her assignments, she turned them into some really cool designs. Keeping track of assignments and coming up with some cool art at the same time? She should be proud. This photo comes from user seven oceans.

I’ll post some pictures of my own planner next week. Until then, stay creative!

Caleb Gray calendars

Mr. Caleb Gray has always had a wonderful imagination, and he discovered at a young age that his love for colorful characters and inventive stories could lead him down a great career path. Caleb went on to get a degree in Fine Arts, and later a job with the Disney animation studio in New York City. It wasn’t long before he realized that his art lends itself wonderfully to more than just books–you can now find Caleb’s artwork on gift products, greeting cards, scrap booking supplies, and of course our collection of Do It All Mom products.

Caleb’s designs really do a wonderful job combining the fun, retro vibe with the appeal of modern style. It’s about time products for busy Moms are as attractive as they are functional!

Most importantly, for Caleb, it’s all about creating delightful designs and products that will make people happy: “If my work can bring a sense of joy and engage the viewer with a smile, then it’s a success!”

TIP OF THE DAY: STAY ORGANIZED AT WORK!

Organization at Work

Staying organized at work can be tough. There’s always someone you have to call back, emails that need to be sent out and pending deadlines (who hasn’t missed one or two of those?)

But keeping things in order and de-cluttered pays off – it will help you get through your workday with less stress! A few tips to keep your cubicle or office neat:

  • Keep your desk as open as possible: Small items like paperclips, pen caps, or sticky notes clutter your desk fast! Either keep those items organized in a drawer, or try an organizational calendar to keep office accessories in plain view.
  • Keep all your tasks/assignments/deadlines in one place: Your life will be made much easier if you don’t have to consult your notebook for appointments, your agenda for deadlines, your computer desktop for conference times…you get the idea. Have one planner or journal with all these things written down in one place for easy referencing.
  • Take time to straighten up: There will be times when things get hectic at work…it’s inevitable. Make sure you take a moment a few times during the day to stop what you’re doing and straighten up your area. File away loose papers and put books or magazines back on the shelf. Anything that you’re no longer currently working on will only be a distraction if you leave it sitting on your desk.
